Dready

  • June 25, 2014

“I finally found what I was missing. If you don’t have this I seriously don’t know what you’re doing!”

Hip-Hop heavyweights Busta Rhymes and Method Man have described Dready as “Crazy” and “A Beast” when it comes to his production. Dready’s story is one of perseverance, determination, and extraordinary talent.

From his Birmingham roots in the English midlands, Dready’s love of music began at the tender age of four, when his reggae musician parents purchased his first drum set. By the age of five, he was already captivating audiences as support act for reggae’s own “Mr. Lover Lover” John Holt.

A chance meeting with Mega-Man in 2002 lead to Dready making his official entry onto the UK charts, as part of the British urban group, So Solid Crew. The group quickly became a phenomenon, known for their #1 smash hit single “21 Seconds”. Dready’s first production for group member Lisa Maffia on a song titled, “All Over” went straight to #2 on the UK charts. By 2003, Dready’s work ethic and undeniable sound garnered him respect amongst his peers and unrivaled success, making him the most sought after producer in the UK. This subsequently led to further collaborations with UK front-runners Estelle, Jay Sean and Miss Dynamite.

After making a huge impact on the UK scene, Dready set his sights on conquering the US market and made his way west. It’s safe to say Dready successfully made the transition. Since touching down he has worked with Dr. Dre, Busta Rhymes, Jeezy and G-Unit just to name an amazing few. His collaboration with UK bred rapper Chipmunk and reggae’s “Gully God” Mavado on “Every Gyal” from Chipmunk’s sophomore album, Transition, lead to a #1 on the UK Reggae Chart. The track went on to have international acclaim when it set Reggae SumFest alight in the summer of 2011.

Currently, Dready’s production can be heard on Busta Rhyme’s Year of The Dragon (digital EP), Chip (formerly known as Chipmunk) and Mavado collaboration “More Money More Gyal”, 50 cent’s “Swag Level” and “Dial 911”, and most recently Chip featuring Meek Mills “Pizza Boy”. Endorsed by, Native Instruments, leading software manufacturer, Dready continues to break down boundaries and raise the bar.
